Monon Boulevard is a newly imagined six-block section of an 18-mile Monon Trail system that runs from Indianapolis to its northern suburbs. Carmel’s vision for a vibrant, walkable community led to the transformation of the greenway from a 12-foot-wide asphalt trail into a 140-foot-wide multi-use urban linear park that is revitalizing the city and spurring economic development. Rundell Ernstberger Associates worked with the city to create a destination-based design with distinct experiences.

Greenspace, biking and hiking trails, a spray plaza, bocce ball courts, ping pong tables, event spaces, and lounge areas are just some of the amenities the trail corridor offers. A mix of Landscape Forms standard and custom site elements along the boulevard, including custom shade structures, swings, and benches, support a variety of activities in unique and welcoming ways.
