Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-design site furniture, structure, lighting and accessories, is proud to announce that the company’s Sustainability Leader, Amy Syverson‑Shaffer, ASLA, has joined the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) Board of Directors.

The Landscape Architecture Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the landscape architecture profession and promoting its role in addressing environmental and social challenges. It works to advance the field of landscape architecture through research, scholarships, leadership development, and advocacy, empowering landscape architects to create more sustainable, just, and healthy environments. Landscape Forms is a longtime supporter of LAF, aiding and collaborating with the organization through their joint scholarship program, the Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership, and the bi-annual XtremeLA student design charrette.

Drawing on her background in landscape architecture and recent work with the ASLA Biodiversity and Climate Action Committee, as well as her experience as a SITES Accredited Professional and TRUE Zero-Waste Advisor, Syverson‑Shaffer brings to the LAF Board the strong design acumen and deep contextual understanding needed to empower landscape architects to better take on today’s most important challenges, leverage their unique strengths, and elevate the positive impact of the profession.

"Against a changing climate and biodiversity crisis, landscape solutions are more needed than ever before, and more than any other profession, landscape architects have the unique nexus of skills to make places for a thriving planet and for thriving people,” says Syverson‑Shaffer. "That's where the Landscape Architecture Foundation comes in — to advance an enhanced, healthier environment by supporting landscape architects.”

“In joining the Board, I look forward to supporting landscape architects in climate solutions and opportunities for reducing the environmental impact of landscape construction,” she continues. "I believe that accelerating the learning curve for our profession can have a real impact on reducing timelines to action, and I hope to bring my experience in sustainability strategy to drive faster adoption of better practices for our industry.”

In her wide-ranging experience that encompasses landscape architecture, design, manufacturing and sustainability strategy implementation, Syverson‑Shaffer excels in synthesizing different areas of expertise and facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration — a skill she looks forward to leveraging in her new role. "I look forward to bringing my perspectives from design, modern craft manufacturing, and sustainability," she says. "I believe that our partnerships hold enormous opportunity for reducing impacts and increasing co-benefits of making landscapes. Our hard-earned capacities at Landscape Forms mean making things responsibly and making the most of the resources we use. Now is the time to work together and make the most of all of our skills, and I'm grateful to LAF for that convening and that call to action."
